'Sleep' tucks in distributor
Alex Rivera's Sundance award winner, the sci-fi tale "Sleep Dealer," has sealed a deal for domestic distribution with Maya Entertainment. Spanish-language pic nabbed the 2008 Park City fest's Alfred P. Sloan and Waldo Salt Screenwriting kudos. Futuristic film creates an environment where Mexican immigrant labor is outsourced from Tijuana via cyber network, with remote-controlled robots working in the United States. Cast includes Luis Fernando Pena, Leonor Varela and Jacob Vegas. (...) Release date is not yet set, but the company plans an aggressive strategy to reach sci-fi gamers, arthouse auds and the Latino market. Fortissimo has sold international rights to Roadshow for Australia/New Zealand, Svensk for Scandinavia and pubcaster NHK for Japanese TV. Maya Entertainment is a Latino-run distribution company focused specifically on the growing U.S. Latino market. (Source)

"Hell Ride" Release Date
I just saw on ComingSoon that Hell Ride has gotten a limited release date for August 8, 2008! It will be rated R. Now if only a trailer came out soon...
Unfortunately it seems as if one of Leonor's projects I was most looking forward to, namely Love & Virtue, has been shelved for an indefinite period of time due to lack of funding, time conflicts, etc. Let's hope they find a solution soon!

"Penelope" premiere & video interview
Leonor attended the "Penelope" Los Angeles Premiere a few weeks ago and pictures of the event have been added to the gallery - be sure to take a look at them because she looks b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! :)
According to Robert, "Sleep Dealer" has gotten great reviews all around. It was shown in NY at Lincoln Center and also at MOMA. Needless to say, the topic of illegal immigration from Mexico is a hot button item here in the USA. You can watch a trailer and a short interview with Miss Varela here.
